Kwara United and Warri Wolves have been directed to replay the Week 29 abandoned Glo Premier League match on Thursday at the FIFA Technical Centre, Abuja even as the Ilorin side were slammed a host of sanctions by the League Management Company.
The LMC said the sanctions were for the breaches that led to the non-completion of their match last Sunday. It added that the penalty is to serve as a warning to all the clubs that the security of match officials and visiting teams are the responsibility of the host team
The letter addressed to both clubs by the Chief Operating Officer of the LMC, Salihu Abubakar, stated that the Match Commissioner’s report indicted the host team, Kwara for the security breaches that led to the physical assault on the first assistant referee, Mr. C. I. D. Durunna by the home fans.
The LMC, he said reached some preliminary decisions. They are that the match to be replayed in Abuja on Thursday, Kwara will bear the organisational costs for hosting the match including indemnities, transport and hotel accommodation of the match officials and the opponents.
Kwara will play their matches at the Ilorin Township Stadium behind closed doors for the rest of the season. That Kwara United to pay a fine of N200,000 and also pay the full medical bills of Mr. Durunna within the next 60 days beginning from August 31. The club has been ordered to produce the fan who attacked the referee within the next seven days for prosecution or risk having the stadium banned from hosting Glo Premier League matches.
