Following his heroic performance in the ongoing World Cup in Brazil, Nigeria’s Vincent Enyeama has been adjudged one of the best 10 goalkeepers at the mundial, according to The Guardian of London.
Enyeama, whose brilliance helped the Super Eagles to the second round of the World Cup before losing to Les Bleus of France, emerged the fourth best in the pool.
The Lille of France keeper made a number of point blank saves in all the four games played by Nigeria against Iran, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Argentina and France respectively.
His superb performance was first acknowledged by ex-international, Sunday Oliseh, who said Enyeama largely landed Nigeria in the Round of 16 of the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Germany goaltender, Manuel Neuer emerged the best so far according to The Guardian, after his charges out of his box prevented Algeria, in particular, from revelling in the space behind Germany’s high defensive line; while his superb distribution makes him the first line of attack.
Other goalkeepers rated above Enyeama are Guillermo Ochoa of Mexico and 27-year-old Keylor Navas of Costa Rica.
Enyeama however, came atop five other colleagues like Tim Howard of the United States of America (USA); Algeria’s Rais M’Bolhi; Júlio César of Brazil; Thibaut Courtois of Belgium; David Ospina of Colombia and Tim Krul of Holland.
Krul, it will be recalled was introduced by manager Louis Van Gaal before the penalty shootout drama against Costa Rica, where he later emerged the hero of the night having saved two of the four kicks taken by Costa Rica to take the Netherlands to the semi-final.
