Top on the list was 21-year old Akinpelumi Korede of the Department of Chemical Engineering, with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.96 as the best graduating student of the university. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Rahamon Bello, disclosed this on Friday during an interactive session with journalists, where he announced the three-day convocation activities, slated for Tuesday April 28 – 30. He said the university would be graduating 10,600 students, with 5,836 (55 per cent) of them to be awarded diplomas, certificates and first degrees.

Further breakdown of the graduating students showed that 103 of them would bag PhD, while 4,330 others would smile home with Masters degrees.
Bello said UNILAG was gradually becoming a postgraduate university with accolades streaming in on regular basis. “Our students and staff are winning laurels, locally and internationally, depicting the academic excellence the university portrays”, he said.
Aside, Korede who emerged the overall best student, Mr. Shittu Wasiu Sesan of the Department of Finance emerged second best graduating student, with a CGPA of 4.91.
